Cypress was originally a rural area that depended on agriculture for livelihood. During the 1800s, sorghum cane was the major crop in the area followed by dairy farming. Cypress, La Palma and Cerritos were all involved in dairy farming and the three cities were collectively nicknamed "Moo Valley" during the 1950s. On July 24, 1956 Cypress was incorporated and named Dairy City. Later, on August 6, 1957 the city's name was changed from Dairy City to Cypress, based on a straw vote of residents. Today, Cypress continues to grow and offers residents an excellent place to live, work and play. Cypress residents enjoy safe, family-friendly neighborhoods, good schools and an excellent location in wonderful sunny Southern California and find the beautiful home that is waiting on you.
